Court orders TRHA to pay dead teen’s mother

The Tobago Regional Health Authority has been ordered to pay a mother $155,000 for the systemic and administrative failures that led to her 17 year old son’s death in September 2010.

According to a Newsday report, the ruling was handed down by Master Martha Alexander earlier this week after the woman brought a lawsuit against the TRHA.

It argued that Zach Matthew Seeram suffered severe internal injuries which were not detected by doctors at the Scarborough Hospital when he was admitted for stab wounds.

In October 2017, the TRHA was found culpable for the teen’s death and in the latest ruling, the Authority was also ordered to pay the woman’s legal costs of $34,642.09.
