A councillor in the Chaguanas area has condemned what he says is the brazen theft of manhole covers in the area.
Approximately six manhole covers at Jerningham and three at Munroe Road are said to be missing from along the pavement.
And according to Councillor for Munroe Road/Caroni Savannah, Adrian Ali, this is not the first time this has happened – earlier this year, five were stolen and had to be replaced.
He says it costs approximately $1,000 to replace a single cover, which is a hefty sum given the Corporation’s current budget constrictions.
He believes the covers are being stolen for scrap metal and is now pleading with the perpetrators to be more cognizant of the rippling effects of their actions.
