Corporal gets $80K bail over “demanding money by menace” charge

A Police Corporal has been granted $80,000 bail over a charge of demanding money by menace from a businessman.

44-year-old Keston Garcia is expected to appear in court on October 18th, 2022, after bail was granted by a Justice of the Peace.

A businessman reported to police that on September 10th, 2022, he was conducting quarry operations when an officer dressed in plain clothes arrived in a marked police vehicle.

The officer allegedly demanded a tax of $2,000 to operate the business and the victim, feeling intimidated, agreed to pay at a future date.

A report was made to police but four days later, the officer sent someone to collect the money on his behalf, with the victim paying $800.

Following investigations, Corporal Garcia was arrested and charged.
