Former MP Dr Rupert Griffith has died and condolences have started pouring in from the political arena.
He passed away last night, after a brief illness, at the age of 72.
UNC leader Kamla Persad Bissessar says he will be remembered as a hard worker and servant of the people, a positive role model, a party loyalist and an endearing colleague and friend.
She says his death is distressing to the party as it always held him in high regard, pointing out that Dr Griffith served the nation in numerous capacities over a 25-year period.
These capacities include: Member of Parliament, Speaker and Minister.
Mrs Persad Bissessar believes the political landscape and the country are poorer with Dr Griffith’s loss.
In extending condolences to his family and friends, she says they are consoled by the fact that Dr Griffith served T&T with honour and faithfulness.
