CMO warns of possible fines, jail time for breaking quarantine orders

Quarantine orders are being issued for all persons swabbed for COVID-19, and if they breach these orders, they could be fined or even jailed.

This warning came today from Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram after reports of persons moving about in public despite being advised to stay home after giving samples to be tested for the virus.

Dr Parasram says a quarantine order is a legal instrument that carries consequences if breached.

The CMO also insisted that while there is added stress on the system due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, it is not overburdened.

He warns though that this could change, if persons do not observe the recommended health guidelines.

Dr Parasram was speaking during today’s Health Ministry briefing.
