Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram says T&T’s COVID-19 death rate is not unusually high when compared to other countries.
He made the point as he responded today to concerns regarding an increase in COVID-19 related deaths in recent weeks.
While he admitted to an increase since Phase 2, he maintains that it partly depends on who is infected, since some persons are more at risk of complications.
Dr Parasram says while some countries have death rates as low as 0.1%, others have rates has high as 14%, 15% or even higher.
Also speaking was Epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds, who says that while there have been a large number of COVID-19 deaths, it is not THE major cause of death in T&T.
Yesterday, T&T recorded 1,000 COVID-19 related deaths.
