The Chief Medical Officer has today explained the rationale for the continued closure of beaches, specifically citing the Delta variant.

At today’s Health Ministry briefing, Dr Roshan Parasram said, with beaches, there would be large groups of people coming together.

He explained that even outdoors, once there two unmasked persons are in close proximity to one another, the virus can spread.

Also, Dr Parasram said the TT Safe Zone initiative was just rolled out and officials need to look at the impact on COVID figures.

Speaking of TT Safe Zone, Dr Parasram revealed that he will be meeting with enforcement agencies to iron out any issues seen so far.
