Close to 60 to be laid off as Methanex’s Trinidad plant remains idled

Approximately 60 persons will be laid off as Canadian company Methanex expects its Titan facility in Trinidad to remain idled indefinitely.

According the company’s website, it has decided to restructure its operations in this country to support a one-plant operation.

It says it has not been successful in reaching an agreement for an economic longer-term natural gas agreement and believes it is prudent to reduce costs while continuing efforts.

Methanex President and CEO, John Floren, says the company remains committed to doing business in T&T.
