In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, a health official is urging persons to exercise responsible alcohol consumption at home over the Christmas period.
This plea is being made by National Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Programme Director, Lyra Thompson-Hollingsworth.
Speaking at today’s Health Ministry media briefing, she warned that irresponsible alcohol consumption has serious health consequences, particularly as it relates to COVID-19.
Mrs Thompson-Hollingsworth said alcohol also alters thoughts, judgment and decision making.
As such, she urged individuals to avoid intoxication so that they can properly follow the public health protocols such as physical distancing, mask wearing and hand hygiene.
Currently, bars are only allowed takeaway services.
