Chief Secretary speaks out on Crown Point evictions

The Chief Secretary has instructed the THA’s legal team to look into how it can intervene in the eviction of some Bon Accord, Crown Point residents.

Several social media posts this morning showed officials carrying out an eviction with Tobago Channel 5 saying it is due to the airport expansion project.

However, speaking at a media briefing this morning, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine expressed disappointment.

He said the matter is before the court after residents got lawyers and went to court seeking an injunction on any pending action.

Mr Augustine said he will be working with the THA’s legal minds to see how the Assembly can help the residents.

Mr Augustine said if the THA, and not Central Government, was in charge of the airport expansion, it would have handled the residents differently.
