Chicken shortage in Guyana affects KFC operations

A nationwide supply shortage of chickens is affecting KFC’s operations in Guyana.

The Guyana Chronicle reported that the Guyana Livestock Development Authority had received reports of a shortage of chickens, and the shortage has caused price increases.

Guyana’s KFC posted on its Facebook page that due to the current chicken shortages, some of “your favourite finger lickin’ items may be unavailable at times”.

The Authority says records show a reduction in the number of cases of hatching eggs being imported when compared to last year.

It adds that some farmers in Guyana have also been complaining of reduced growth rates and higher mortality.

The GLDA says the major players in the sector were consulted, and assured that the situation would be rectified during the week.
