Charles: Set measurable targets for crime fighting

Government is being urged to set measurable targets for law enforcement agencies, in a bid to curb crime.

Naparima MP Rodney Charles says these agencies must have goals for police response times, crime detection rates, significantly reduced times for trials to start and finish, and recidivism rates.

He says improvements must also be made to institutions like CCC and MILAT which he believes will reduce the attractiveness of gangs.

Mr Charles says once measurable targets are set, the next stage is to provide the resources needed and hold those accountable for the achievements of these goals.
