A century old eucalyptus tree at the Royal Botanic Gardens had to be cut down recently after vandals set it on fire.
According to the NGO Friends of Botanic Gardens of T&T, the incident occurred on October 22nd 2020, and was allegedly carried out by youngsters.
Photos uploaded to its Facebook page showed fire damage to the trunk.
The extent of the damage to the tree has not been stated, however the according to the group, the entire tree was subsequently removed.
The tree, eucalyptus tereteticornis, was planted circa 1910.
