CCHR: Don’t victim-blame assaulted Venezuelan teen

Comments blaming a Venezuelan teen for being assaulted have disturbed the Caribbean Centre for Human Rights.

The organization is today condemning the incident in which the teen was allegedly raped and stabbed several times before being dumped on the road.

CCHR says any victim blaming removes the absolute responsibility from the perpetrator.

It is reminding that the vast majority of Venezuelans in T&T are already in a vulnerable position as they’re feeling a humanitarian crisis in their homeland.

The organization is also commending the TTPS for “quick action” in the case as a suspended police officer has already been arrested in connection with the matter.
