Authorities are being urged to help three companies in Caroni East with their foreign exchange requests after their warehouses were destroyed by fire.

This call comes from MP Dr Rishad Seecharan after destruction at the facilities owned by Alisha Marketing Limited and Roomlocks Electrical Limited who import and distribute electrical and home decor products, and Seumeds Limited, importers and distributors of veterinary pharmaceuticals and agro supplies.

He says Alisha Marketing and Roomlocks’ losses are estimated at $15 million while the cost to Seumeds is valued at around $20 million.

Dr Seecharan says the businesses only want to be allowed to purchase enough foreign exchange to allow them to import and restock their supplies.

He notes that all the products marketed by the companies are imported and they are not manufactured in T&T.

He is also asking that their applications for forex be dealt with in a timely manner.
