COP Leader Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan has become the latest political leader to step down after the 2020 General Election.
She tendered her letter of resignation at a special meeting of the National Executive last evening.
Mrs Seepersad-Bachan contested the St Augustine seat in Monday’s poll, but lost to the UNC’s Kadijah Ameen.
In the interim, the party’s National Council will appoint one of the Deputy Political Leaders to act as Political Leader.
The COP only fielded four candidates in the Election.
Mrs Seepersad-Bachan says the party chose to fight the poll because they firmly believed in the need to strengthen the parliamentary democracy.
She also commended the COP candidates for maintaining a high standard in their campaigns.
