Businessman charged with 20 fraud offences


    A 51-year-old Cunupia businessman has been granted $500,000 bail for 20 fraud offences.

    Karl Nasser Mohammed aka ‘Mahase Rampersad’ was charged with 11 counts of uttering a forged valuable security, seven counts of obtaining property by false pretences in the sum of $2,942,000, one count of forgery, and one count of larceny.

    Bail was granted by a Justice of the Peace on Friday, with the matter to next be heard in the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on April 23rd.

    The accused is also required to report to the Cunupia Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 6 am and 6 pm.

    Mohammed was arrested on Tuesday 13th April, 2021 by Municipal Police officers while driving under the influence.

    He is alleged to have purchased high-end vehicles using fraudulent documents and cheques.

    Officers have reportedly recovered two of the vehicles: a BMW and a Honda CRV, at a property in Marabella.

    The owner of that property, 62-year-old Stephen Rose, has since been charged with one count of receiving stolen property.

    He also appeared before a JP and was granted $300,000 bail.

    He is expected to appear before a San Fernando Magistrate on May 31st.
