Brazil’s Gov’t urged to accept financial aid to fight fires in the Amazon

Governors in Brazil, especially in the states most affected by the record number of forest fires, have urged the country’s President to accept the financial aid offered by G7 countries to fight the fires.

President Jair Bolsonaro had earlier refused the $22 million offer, but that position was reportedly altered following a meeting he held with the Governors.

The Brazilian Government says it would accept the aid, as long as it had control of what to spend it on.

A record number of fires are burning in Brazil, most of them in the Amazon rainforest.
