Birds, $1.7m in marijuana seized by Coast Guard


    $1.7 million in marijuana has been seized by the Coast Guard, along with a number of birds.

    Yesterday, a vessel was observed acting suspiciously off the south coast of Trinidad, in the vicinity of Morne Diablo.

    The boat reportedly landed on a nearby beach, with its occupants offloading a number of unknown packages.

    Coast Guard officers attempted to detain the individuals, but they managed to escape, leaving behind the packages.

    There were 54 packages of marijuana weighing approximately 54kg along with a quantity of birds.

    These have since been handed over to the Police Service.
