Barkeepers’ association calls for meeting with Government on COVID-19

The Barkeepers and Operators Association (BOATT) is calling for a meeting with Government to chart the way forward in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today at a media conference, the association made several recommendations as bars are only allowed “grab and go” services at this time.

Among them, it is calling for secured loans for the industry, more enforcement of the health guidelines and for a special unit within T&T Police Service to focus on enforcement.

On the issue of enforcement, the association also wants clarification on the Health Ministry’s decision to grant exemptions to clubs which support non-team, non-contact sports.

BOATT says many of these clubs are in possession of liquor licenses and will be encouraging congregation, in breach of COVID-19 regulations.
