A bandit was shot in the leg by his own gun after trying to rob a fruit vendor in Princes Town on Tuesday.
Two men, one holding a firearm entered the stall along the M1 Tasker Road and announced a hold-up.
He pointed the weapon at the vendor and a struggle ensued, during which a loud explosion was heard.
The suspect was wounded on his right leg while the vendor ran to safety in some bushes.
The two suspects escaped in waiting a vehicle on Cedar Hill Estate Road.
This was later intercepted by police in Golconda and all three occupants were arrested.
