ALTA begins latest round of adult literacy classes


    ALTA has begun its latest round of free classes for adults aged 16 and over who would like to improve their reading, writing and spelling.

    Its latest programme got underway for International Literacy Day on September 8th.

    Classes are two hours, twice weekly, at 50 locations across the country.

    Most classes are 5-7pm, though classes at libraries start at 4pm.

    ALTA adds that morning classes, starting at either 9am or 10am, are also available at ten venues including Harvard’s Club POS, UWI, Arima Bethel Pentecostal and Open Bible Church San Fernando.

    ALTA’s 5-7pm classes are at three new locations:

    • Maraval Boys RC School Wed & Thurs, sponsored by First Caribbean International Bank
    • Fyzabad Government Secondary School Mon & Wed,sponsored by Trinity Exploration & Production Services
    • CarenageHomework Centre Tues & Thurs, formerly the Old Carenage Police Station

    NALIS, which has partnered with the organization for more than two decades, hosted two days of new student registration at ten libraries last Tuesday and Wednesday.

    Registration is continuing continues at class venues and via their hotline 741-9454 until the end of September.

    Students are advised to bring photo ID and $20 towards materials.
