Adverse weather forces closure of WASA water treatment plants

Residents in parts of North Trinidad are urged to conserve water as heavy rainfall led to turbid river conditions and clogged intake screens yesterday, forcing the temporary shutdown of several treatment plants.

These include Tompire, Matura, Aripo, Quare, Guanapo, Luengo & Naranjo, Acono and Caura.

Areas affected are Toco, Rampanalgas, Valencia, Santa Rosa Heights, Arima, Tunapuna, Tacarigua and Maracas St. Joseph.

WASA says operations should resume when conditions normalize but it may take up to 24 hours for the water supply to be restored.
