8 year old drowns as Bahamas family tries to escape Dorian

An 8 year old boy has drowned as his family tried to escape the floods caused by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas yesterday.

According to a report on the Bahamas Eyewitness News, the boy’s grandmother Ingrid McIntosh told the media that the child’s mother was able to retrieve his body and take it to a clinic in Abaco.

She says the search is continuing for the boy’s sister, as she is still missing.

The most powerful storm to hit the Bahamas since records began tore off roofs from buildings and caused severe flooding yesterday.

Category-five Hurricane Dorian is currently moving slowly but the core of extremely dangerous Hurricane Dorian will continue to pound Grand Bahama Island through much of today and tonight.

Around 4am today, the Bahamas Press reported that the Grand Bahama International Airport was under 5 feet of water.

The hurricane will move dangerously close to the Florida east coast tonight through Wednesday evening.

Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina have all declared states of emergency.
