3 to appear in court for fake import licenses

    Three persons were granted a total of $700,000 bail for charges of Misbehaviour in Public Office.

    The accused are: 43-year-old Vidya Ramdass – an employee of the Trade Ministry, 66-year-old Chhatrapal Lowkaran – a Foreign Used Car Dealer, and 68-year-old Edward Fraser- also a Foreign Used Car Dealer.

    Ramdass allegedly issued fraudulent licenses to the two dealers during the period November 2020 and July 2021.

    The charges are as follows:

    • Ramdass, jointly charged with Lowkaran as a secondary facilitator, with four counts of Misbehaviour in Public Office.
    • Ramdass, with two counts of Misbehaviour in Public Office and one additional count of Misbehaviour in Public Office, jointly with Fraser as a secondary facilitator, by W/Cpl Brown of the ACIB, and,
    • Ramdass, with two counts of Misbehaviour in Public Office for issuing fraudulent licenses to a business place, by PC Alleyne of the ACIB.

    Today, Ramdass was granted $350,000 bail by Justice of the Peace Ali, while Lowkaran and Fraser were granted $200,000 and $150,000 bail respectively.

    The trio will appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate on December 20th 2022.
