200,000 persons initially impacted by WTP shutdowns

Over 200,000 persons were initially impacted by the shutdown of a number of Water Treatment Plants.

Operations at the Plants were stopped due to flooded river conditions resulting in clogged intake screens.

A number have since been brought back into operation, while work continues at others.

During a media conference today, WASA’s Director of Operations, Shaira Ali, explained why the plants had to be shut down.

Meanwhile, she says WASA will be looking at mitigating initiatives in the future, including redesigning of the intakes, installing additional storage reservoirs, increasing ground water supplies in areas where possible, and protecting watersheds.
