There is an old quotation: ‘Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.’
That quotation rings true for Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) leader Ancel Roget.
When will you learn?
In 2015 prior to the general election you signed an MoU with the People’s National Movement (PNM) in the hope of having the Government led by Dr Keith Rowley bring closure to outstanding wage negotiations. You did your best to get the PNM elected and when it was time for the piper to be paid Dr Rowley stood up and said his party will not be blackmailed.
‘Fool me once.’
Roll forward to 2020 and lo and behold the OWTU is chosen as the best group to take over Petrotrin out of a slate of 74 candidates. The general election rolled around and OWTU again helped the PNM to victory. As the closing date comes up for the Petrotrin deal we learn that the OWTU offer is refused. ‘Fool me twice’.
