Water supply to parts of Central and South-west Trinidad prompted by emergency shutdown of Point Lisas Desalination Plant

A disruption in water supplies to residents in parts of Central and South-west Trinidad is due to an emergency shutdown at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant.

WASA says the unplanned shutdown there was initiated after problems developed with the control systems, around 8pm yesterday.

It assures though that DESALCOTT, owner and operator of the Plant, is assessing the situation to carry out repairs.

The affected areas are: Caroni, Charlieville, Cunupia, Couva, Marabella, San Fernando, Union Hall, Woodland, Philippine, South Oropouche, Avocat, Penal, Rousillac, La Brea, St Helena, Chaguanas, Carapichaima, Claxton Bay, Gasparillo, Cocoyea, La Romain, Palmist, Rambert Village, Fyzabad, Siparia, San Francique and Aripero.

As a result, WASA says a limited truck borne supply is available with priority to special homes, health care and educational institutions.

It says updates will be given when the information comes to hand.
