T&T’s deep-waters to be revealed for first time through video series

For the first time, high quality video footage of the deep seas around T&T will be unveiled to the public, via a 5-part video series.

The project sees collaboration between several entities including NIHERST, UWI and the Caribbean Council for Science and Technology.

According to UWI biologist Dr. Judith Gobin, the video footage comes from a 2013/14 exploration of T&T and Grenada’s waters by Professor Robert Ballard, the man who discovered the wreck of the RMS Titanic.

Dr. Gobin explained how new footage of coral growing in a harsh deep-water environment can now challenge the accepted science behind the organism.

The team is hoping that the 5-part video series on Grenada and T&T’s deep-water can be released in December 2017.

Along with the videos, they are also aiming to release a photo book on the deep sea wonders of the Caribbean.

The exploration was conducted in waters of depths lower than 2,500ft.
