St. James gets upgraded Cancer Treatment equipment

The St. James Medical Facility has boosted its capabilities in treating cancer, especially those in female organs.

The NWRHA says it has started the High Dose Rate of its Brachytherapy treatment, also known as radiation therapy.

Previously, the facility only offered the Low Dose Rate, which required patient hospitalization for several days.

It says this new offering treats with different types of cancers, especially cervical, endometrial and vaginal.

The High Dose Treatment uses 3D planning, increases patient comfort and decreases the time for treatment, which leads to a reduced waiting list.

Staff is also at a lower risk of radiation exposure, since the equipment is automated.
