Nicholas Pooran will make his Indian Premier League debut for Kings XI Punjab in today’s clash with Rajasthan Royals.
The T&T and Windies wicketkeeper batsman has been selected as one of KXIP’s 4 overseas players – the others are Chris Gayle, Sam Curran and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Pooran has played 95 T20s before today, scoring 1764 runs at a hefty strike rate of 143.76.
Only 23 years old, he has had a rollercoaster journey to his IPL debut – in January 2015 he was forced to the sidelines after injuring his leg in a car crash in Trinidad.
He was unable to take part in the Regional Super 50 Cup that year.
But since then, he has been steadily improving and made his T20i debut for the Windies in September 2016 against Pakistan.
Earlier this year, he played his first One Day International for the Windies.
Kings XI Punjab head coach Mike Hesson has compared Pooran to West Indian counterpart Chris Gayle.
