Police see rise in pedestrian deaths

Police have seen an alarming increase in pedestrian deaths.

According to stats from the TTPS, nine of the fourteen road deaths for 2018 are pedestrians – that’s 64% of all road fatalities for the year.

In 2017, pedestrians accounted for just 21% of deaths on the road.

Motorists are urged to be extremely careful on the roads and more so when driving around persons.

Pedestrians, meanwhile, should cross only at crosswalks or walkovers.

In areas where these are not available, the TTPS says persons should only attempt to cross when the road is clear or when vehicles have come to a complete stop to allow them to cross.
