PM Rowley to speak out on CJ’s sabbatical leave on Thursday

The Prime Minister is expected to speak out on Thursday reagarding the granting of sabbatical leave to Chief Justice Ivor Archie by President Anthony Carmona.

The Office of the Prime Minister says Dr. Keith Rowley sought legal advice of Senior Counsel, and will address the matter after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

Since the request for sabbatical leave by CJ Archie and subsequent granting by the President, the matter has raised several questions.

The granting of sabbatical leave to CJ Archie has been questioned, on the grounds of whether the CJ can in fact go on the six month leave.

Dr. Rowley wrote to the President seeking clarification, and a response has already been sent by His Excellency.

Reports indicate President Carmona, in his correspondence to the Prime Minister, reaffirmed his decision to grant the CJ’s leave.
