A loud explosion was heard this morning in Port of Spain near to the Ministry of National Security and Hall of Justice buildings on Abercromby Street around 9:15am.
Around 11:20am, National Security Minister Stuart Young told reporters that investigations found the cause to be a faulty underground T&TEC line.
T&TEC says repairs to the faulty underground electrical cable will begin afternoon.
It has not yet been determined what the cause was.
The Commission says after the explosion, its engineers responded immediately and restored the electricity supply to customers in Port of Spain.
T&TEC reiterated the National Security Minister’s confirmation that there was no national security threat stemming out of the explosion.
