Had the centre of yesterday’s earthquake been closer to Trinidad, and had the magnitude been higher, there would have been more damage to buildings and infrastructure.
That’s according to Dr. Joan Latchman of the UWI Seismic Research Centre, who today explained what happened.

Dr. Latchman says earthquakes are occurring all the time even though we don’t feel them all the time.
She says the lower magnitude quakes have been more frequent in the area between Trinidad and Venezuela since 2014.
