The Red Cross has made its first delivery of emergency humanitarian aid to Venezuela after the President relented in the face of international pressure and let supplies in.

The Financial Times reports that the shipment, flown in from Panama, includes 14 electricity generators, 5,000 litres of distilled water and equipment for life-saving surgery.

It reports that the government and international community have been at loggerheads with the Venezuelan administration denying that the country is facing a humanitarian crisis.

However, the UN says 7 million people need humanitarian aid and nearly 2 million are suffering malnutrition in what was the wealthiest country in South America.
