President’s Medal winners receive honors

    Sadhana Mary Balladin, Amrita Singh, Joshua Mohan, Cassandra Khan, Saiesh Rampersad and Jada Ramnath, 2018 President’s Medal Awardees were yesterday presented with their medals by Her Excellency Paula-Mae Weekes, ORTT, President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago at a ceremony held at UTT Theatre One, National Academy for the Performing Arts.

    The President’s Gold Medal for Higher Education is awarded to the highest performing student at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) in two categories.

    Ms. Balladin, was awarded the 2018 President’s Medal for Higher Secondary Education, Gold in Category I: Environmental Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Mathematics & Natural Sciences. A former pupil of St. Joseph’s Convent, San Fernando, she is currently a first-year student in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, MBBS Programme at the University of the West Indies, Mt. Hope Campus.

    Ms. Singh was awarded the 2018 President’s Medal for Higher Secondary Education, Gold in Category II: Business Studies, Creative and Performing Studies, Language Studies, Humanities and Technical Studies. A former student of Lakshmi Girls’ Hindu College, she is currently pursuing a degree in Business Management and hopes to enter the Tourism and Hospitality Industry in the future.

    The President’s Medal Gold for Secondary Education is awarded to the Most Outstanding Student at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations.

    In 2018, this award went to Cassandra Khan, a student of Naparima Girls’ High School. Cassandra attained eleven grade ones in English A, English B, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, French, Spanish, Additional Mathematics and Theatre Arts Dance. She is currently pursuing five (5) subjects at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) level: Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Communication Studies and Caribbean Studies.

    The President’s Medal Silver for Secondary Education is awarded to the student placing second at the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations.

    In 2018, this award went to Joshua Christian Mohan a student of Naparima Boys College where he attained full distinctions in all ten subjects written: Information Technology, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Principles of Accounts, English A, Literature and Spanish.

    The President’s Medal Gold for Primary Education which is awarded to the Most Outstanding Student at the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) Examination was won by Saiesh Vedam Rampersad, a former student of the Gandhi Memorial Vedic School. Saiesh scored 100% in Mathematics, English Language and Creative Writing in the 2018 exam.

    The President’s Medal Silver for Primary Education is awarded to the student placing second in the Secondary Entrance Assessment (SEA) Examinations. In 2018 this award went to Jada Ramnath, who sat the exam as a student of Gandhi Memorial Vedic Primary School. As befits someone attaining second place in the SEA Exam, Jada attained her first choice and now attends St. Augustine Girls High School.
