Garbage is piling up in Princes Town as contractors have gone on strike due to nonpayment of their fees.
Princes Town Corporation Chairman Gowrie Roopnarine says the situation has gone bad to worse, despite several attempts to get the required funds from the Central Government.
In all ten electoral districts, he says garbage has not been collected in the past few days.
He says the limited dump trucks owned by the Regional Corporation will have now to be used to clear the roadsides until the matter is resolved.
Mr. Roopnarine thanked “the people of Princes Town for their patience and understanding knowing that our hands are tied and we are powerless to do otherwise, as we are at the behest of the central government, who have again disappointed the burgesses of Princes Town.”
