Netflix is promising to cut back on how often smoking is shown in its original shows.
It comes after a report said programmes on Netflix showed much more tobacco than on US TV or cable.
The streaming site says smoking in programmes aimed at younger people will only be allowed for reasons of ‘historical or factual accuracy’.
But in other shows Netflix says it will only be shown if it’s essential to the creative vision of the artist or character-defining.
Smoking was shown 262 times during season two of Stranger Things.
The report found the number of times smoking is seen in shows like Orange is the New Black is going up.
Netflix: “We also recognise that smoking is harmful and when portrayed positively on screen can adversely influence young people.”
