Economist Dr Vaalmikki Arjoon has seen nothing new from Government in the mid year budget review to entice confidence in the economy and bring about additional investments.
But speaking to 103.1FM News, Dr Arjoon says there are a few positives that can be taken from the Finance Minister’s presentation.
One of these he says is no new taxes.
Meanwhile Dr Arjoon says he does not totally agree with the Opposition Leader’s comment that the economy is dead.
But he believes the non-energy sector is stagnated.
Dr Arjoon says he is surprised that there were no new initiatives announced by the Finance Minister, since this year is expected to be an election year (Local Government Elections).
He believed though that there would’ve been plans to alleviate the hardships faced by the business community, to stimulate more investment and confidence in the economy.
