The Children’s Authority says it is closely monitoring the implementation of recommendations to improve operations at the Cyril Ross Nursery.
These were made after the CA’s Licensing and Monitoring Unit investigated in 2018, reports of alleged abuse and neglect of the children.
The Authority says several visits were made to the Nursery and residents and staff were interviewed to determine whether the children were getting adequate care.
Some of the recommendations the Unit proposed included: training staff to properly care for the children, particularly those with challenging behaviours; creating a reward and consequences system; a revised Behaviour Management Policy; the inclusion of recreation and extracurricular activities, and the development of a Donations Policy.
While operations have significantly improved, the Authority says implementation is an ongoing process which it will continue to closely monitor.
