Ministry officials: Rakhi row SAGHS student did not happen

Officials at the Ministry of Education have disputed a claim made by a local Pundit, that a Hindu student of the St. Augustine Girls’ High School was a victim of religious discrimination.

The claim, which is being circulated on social media, were that the pupil was singled out during an assembly and shamed for wearing a Rakhi, which is tied around the wrist.

The Trinidad Express reported that Chief Education Officer Harrilal Seecharan says he was assured by school officials that no such incident occurred.

He says no student was asked to remove any symbol or singled out in assembly.
