Debutant’s fifty gives Bangladesh the edge in 2nd Test

Shadman Islam made 76 from 199 balls

Dhaka, Bangladesh – The Windies took regular wickets but fifties from Bangladesh debutant Shadman Islam and captain Shakib al Hasan have given the hosts the edge after Day 1 of the 2nd Test. 

Opener Shadman played a composed, patient innings of 79 from 199 balls while the wickets of Soumya Sarkar (19), Mominul Haque (29) and Mohammad Mithun (29) fell around him.

He put on just 10 with his skipper before being trapped lbw to Devendra Bishoo who took 2/69.

Mushfiqur Rahim join Shakib and scored 14, becoming the 2nd Bangladeshi to 4000 Test runs, before Shermon Lewis disturbed his stumps to end his knock.

Shakib (55) and Mahmadullah (31) would stay together for the rest of the day’s play as Bangladesh ended on 259/5.

The Windies are looking to tie up the Test series after losing the opener by 64 runs.
