‘Barbie’ rakes in $337 million worldwide on opening weekend

The ‘Barbenheimer’ trend certainly showed up in the weekend’s boxoffice numbers globally, as both movies exceeded expectation and posted huge numbers, as the summer blockbuster movie schedule heats up.

‘Barbie’ starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, took in US$337 million in the global boxoffice, with $155 million in the US alone.

The next big movie, Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ took in just over US$174 million in the world, with $80.5 million in North America.

They knocked off last week’s top movie of Mission Impossible 7, which now lands at #3 in the US behind the surprise hit ‘Sound of Freedom’ starring Jim Caviezel, about child trafficking around the world.

Sound of Freedom scored $20.5 million this weekend in the US, with MI7 trailing less thana million behind.

The latest Indian Jones movie rounded off the top 5.
