Concern over Sargassum seaweed impact on Turtle nesting in Toco
Efforts are being made to limit the impact of Sargassum seaweed on nesting leatherback turtles.
Copious amounts of seaweed are once again washing up along shorelines in Toco. And since now the peak of the leatherback nesting season, there are concerns about how it would impact the turtles and their hatchlings.
103FM News spoke with Terry Rondon, Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation, who explained exactly what is happening.

Mr Rondon assured though, that the seaweed is being cleared daily.

According to Mr Rondon, the clean-up is being done manually, due to the sensitivity of the areas. He is also urging citizens to help, by either donating garbage bags or rakes, or by volunteering their time.
