April 20th: Mumbai beat Punjab to rocket to top of IPL table
Chasing 199 runs to win a T20 match isn’t easy, but the Mumbai Indians made it look effortless today, as they defeated the King 11 Punjab by 8 wickets.
Punjab looked good, with one of the finest knocks you’d ever see by Hashim Amla, as he stroked 104 not out in just 60 balls.
He smashed deliveries all over the park, including 6 sixes and 8 fours.
With a quick-fire 40 runs from 18 balls by Glen Maxwell, Punjab scored a healthy 198 for 4 in 20 overs on a flat pitch.
But, that didn’t intimidate Jos Buttler and Parthiv Patel as the pair put on 81 runs for the first wicket for Mumbai within 6 overs.
Buttler top scored with 77 off 37 balls, Patel made 37 off 18 and youngster Nitish Rana smashed 62 not out off 34 balls.
Mumbai reached their target in 15.3 overs losing just 2 wickets.
The win takes them to the top of the IPL table with 10 points, edging KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who each have 8 points.
