Further discussions soon on sugary drinks ban in schools
A decision will be made within the next few days, regarding the enforcement of a proposed ban on sugary drinks in Government and Government-assisted schools.
The plan was put forward in January by the Health Ministry, with implementation by April 2017.
Today however, during a meeting with the Education Minister, the National Primary Schools Principals Association suggested a phasing out of sugary drinks, as opposed to a sudden ban.
Minister Anthony Garcia told 103FM News that another meeting will be held soon to further discuss this and other issues.
As such, he expects that by the time schools reconvene for the third and final term, there will be a plan regarding the implementation of this proposal.
The ban was put forward as a way of improving childhood health.
