Opposition concerned with proposed removal of preliminary inquiry

Government is being urged to focus on improving detection of crime, rather than implementing judge only trials for accused persons.

This comes from the Opposition, as it expressed its displeasure with the proposed amendment to the Miscellaneous Provisions Bill.

In judge-only trials, there is no jury, meaning the judge is both the fact finder and ruler on matters of law and procedure.

Speaking this morning at the Office of the Opposition Leader, former Legal Affairs Minister Prakash Ramadhar explained the importance of a trial by jury.
