Fight involving students of Mayaro Secondary School prompts Education Minister’s visit

The Education Minister will visit the Mayaro Secondary School today after a fight among students last Tuesday.

The incident, captured and circulated on social media, showed a girl being beaten by several of her schoolmates.

It also showed her being dragged from a concrete drain and placed on a pavement in a state of unconsciousness.

The Ministry confirmed in a media release that four female students were suspended for 7 days by the school Principal, ‘pending further investigations’.

According to reports, the victim, who is among those on suspension, was made to apologise to her attackers.

Minister Anthony Garcia and a team of officials from the Ministry will be at the school this morning.
