A national award recipient is calling for the steelpan to replace recorders in music classrooms at schools across T&T.
Last night, Duvone Stewart received the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) for his contribution to culture and the arts.
Speaking to reporters after, he said students need to be exposed to the national instrument more.
Mr Stewart also believes the steelpan is the key to solving crime in T&T.
Mr Stewart is currently the Musical Director for BPTT Renegades.
Renegades are joint Panorama champions, having tied with Massy Trinidad All Stars in the Large Conventional Bands category in this year’s event.
He also dedicated his award to the steelpan fraternity, and named the late Dr Jit Samaroo as his pan idol.
